[Sensitivity to a highly dispersed copper powder of mutants of Escherichia coli B resistant to CuCl2]
Izv Akad Nauk SSSR Biol. 1987 Mar-Apr;(2):286-9.

Sensitivity of E.coli CuCl2 resistant mutants (Cup R mutants) to fine dust of copper (FDC) has been studied. Two types of Cup R mutants have been separated on the basis of sensitivity to synergic composition of streptomycin with CuCl2. Both types of mutants turned out to be resistant to FDC. Antimicrobial action of FDC is supposed to be based both on Cu2+ action, and active oxygen forming in the process of copper dissolution. The given study demonstrated possibilities of application of ion-resistant mutant strains for studying specifics and mechanisms of biological action of metals in polycrystal form.
